KAUAI EMERGENCY RENTERS’ ASSISTANCE

Since May 10, 2021, Kaua’i Federal Credit Union has been accepting applications for the CRUA program, which will provide rent and utility assistance to residents of Kaua’i and Ni’ihau who have demonstrated a reduction in household income due to the COVID-19 pandemic using funds from the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021. Almost 900 households have received over $7 million in rental assistance and nearly $300,000 in utility assistance through this program, fulfilling the program’s mission of providing housing stability on the island of Kaua’i.

The moratorium, which had been in effect since April 2020, was extended until August 6, 2021. Landlords may begin the eviction process for non-payment of rent after August 6th. The State of Hawaii Homeless Initiative has compiled a list of resources related to the eviction moratorium. Legal Aid Hawaii also has additional resources, such as “your rights as a tenant” and “your rights as a landlord,” to help you determine your next steps.

More information on what you should know as a tenant and a landlord can be found under the Media & Resources tab, as well as links to additional resources from our partners.

Since May 10, 2021, Kaua’i Federal Credit Union has been accepting applications for the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021-funded Rent and Utility Assistance (CRUA) program to assist families who have seen a loss in household income as a result of the COVID-19 outbreak. As a result of this campaign, approximately 900 homes on Kaua’i have received over $7 million in rental aid and nearly $300,000 in utility assistance.

The moratorium, which has been in effect since April 2020, will be extended until August 6, 2021. If a tenant fails to pay their rent after August 6, landlords may commence the eviction process.
