Atlantic County, NJ Emergency Rental Assistance

No applications or accompanying documents will be accepted in person due to COVID-19 issues. It is strongly recommended that you use the application portal available on this website to expedite the submission and assessment of your application. The registration links are provided below.

Submitting your application and supporting documentation via mail will result in a delay in processing. Funds will be provided on a first-come, first-served basis upon receipt of a complete application and all the supporting documents.

Atlantic County NJ Covid-19 Emergency Rental Assistance Program income requirements

Prohibition of Benefit Duplication
Applicants must report any additional rental assistance obtained from local, state, or federal governments. These benefits will be considered when evaluating the amount of rental assistance that will be offered to the applicant.

  • Evidence of Financial Difficulties In light of COVID
  • Applicants must demonstrate financial hardship as a result of COVID-19.

Assistance with Rentals is Available

These monies are designed to be used in the event of an emergency.

  • Applicants who are not in arrears with their housing charges may apply for the cost of three months of housing solely, beginning with the current month’s housing costs.
  • Applicants who are in arrears with their housing bills may apply (in a single application) for assistance for several previous months commencing March 15, 2020, as well as for the following three months’ housing costs.
  • Arrears and current utility bills (Gas, Electric, and Water) may also be paid. Utilities paid as part of the rent will be considered rent only.
  • If funds are available, candidates may reapply for help every three months for a maximum of twelve months.

ALONG WITH YOUR APPLICATION, YOU MUST SUBMIT THE FOLLOWING DOCUMENTS.

  • A copy of each household member’s identification
  • A duplicate of your executed lease
  • Affidavit of Current Family Income: (both of the following)
    -Two months’ worth of bank statements, or any other online service you use to manage your household’s cash flow. PayPal, Chime, and Prepaid Credit Cards are just a few examples.
    -At least three recent pay statements and confirmation of any extra income received by each household member

  • Demonstration of Difficulty: (one of the following two)
  • Employer’s Layoff Statement, Job Application Rejection, or Proof of Income Loss in addition to an Unemployment Statement or COVID Hardship Letter ( 2019 and 2020 tax returns)
  • Housing Instability Demonstrated: (one of the following three)
  • Rent/Utility/eviction notice as proof of arrears, or evidence of unsafe/unhealthy living circumstances
  • Proof that 50% of a household’s current monthly income is spent on rent
