Cumberland County Emergency Rental Assistance Program

The City of Fayetteville and Cumberland County have decided to temporarily halt the acceptance of new applications for the Emergency Rental Assistance Program until extra funding becomes available, according to the city.

What is the ERAP?

The Emergency Rental Assistance Program is a federally funded program that provides short-term financial assistance to low-income households.

The funds are allocated by the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). The funds are given out on a first-come, first-served basis and the amount of money varies depending on the region.

City of Fayetteville

The City of Fayetteville and Cumberland County have been awarded funding by the United States Department of Treasury to create a combined Emergency Rental Assistance Program (ERAP). The program will begin in 2021. (RAP). A total of $13.6 million in federal funds has been provided to more than 2,500 households in our region within six months of the RAP’s inception, helping them to stabilize their rent and/or energy payments.

Cumberland County hopes that state funds will become available in the future to support the continuation of the program.
