Program Overview
The Emergency Rental Assistance (ERA2) Program is reopening on November 25, 2024. It provides financial support to Fort Bend County residents who are struggling to pay rent and utilities. Eligible applicants can receive:
- Up to $2,000 per month for rent.
- Up to $500 per month for utilities.
- Support for a maximum of 18 months, or until funds are exhausted.
Payments are made directly to landlords and utility providers. Case managers are available to assist applicants throughout the process.
Eligibility Criteria
To qualify for the ERA2 Program, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Be a resident of Fort Bend County.
- Have a household income at or below 80% of the Area Median Income (AMI).
- Demonstrate an inability to pay bills due to job loss, income reduction, furlough, or reduced hours caused directly or indirectly by COVID-19.
- Not currently receive rental assistance for the same period or have already reached the 18-month assistance limit.
Required Documents
Applicants must prepare the following documents:
- A government-issued photo ID.
- Tax returns for all working household members aged 18 or older (2022 or 2023).
- The full lease agreement and a current rent ledger.
- The most recent utility bills.
- A late notice or eviction notice.
- A self-attestation of income reduction directly or indirectly caused by COVID-19 (if applicable).
Note: If certain documents cannot be provided, a case manager can issue a self-attestation or affidavit.
