New Mexico – Emergency Rental Assistance Program (ERAP)

Residents of Doa Ana County who have been displaced as a result of COVID-19 have been given a $9.3 million grant from the United States Department of the Treasury’s Emergency Rental Assistance (ERA) program. Residents in the county, including those who live within the municipalities of Las Cruces, Sunland Park, and Anthony, as well as the Village of Hatch and Town of Mesilla, are eligible to apply for this money. The stipend covers both the recipient’s rent and their utility costs. This prize does not cover mortgage payments or utilities that homeowners with mortgages must pay.

The deadline for committing the funds is September 30, 2022, which is the end of the federal government’s fiscal year. Any funds that have not been pledged by that date must be returned to the federal government. This subsidy is offered to both landlords and tenants, so anyone can benefit from it. There are specific standards that must be met in order to get funds. A household’s yearly income must be less than or equal to 80% of the area median income, as established by the Department of Housing and Urban Development, in order to qualify for this program (HUD). This corresponds to a $43,900 annual pay for a family of four.

Furthermore, you must demonstrate that you have been placed in a severe financial condition as a direct or indirect result of the COVID-19 pandemic. This could be proof of unemployment benefits or a loss of income, or it could be an indication of another type of financial stress that threatens the household’s ability to pay rent or utilities.

The federal CFDA number 21.023, which was issued to Doa Ana County by the United States Department of the Treasury, is funding this project in its entirety or in part.
